There are scores of garden planters on the market today that can be used on decks, patios and porches. With so many choices out there, how does one go about choosing which types of planters to use? The answer is simple: consider the mobility factor you need in garden planters.

For instance, you would not want to buy concrete planters if you plan on moving your flowers or plants around the yard, patio or deck. Concrete planters are very heavy which makes moving them not an option. Instead, have a look at plastic or terracotta planters or those made of lightweight wood. There are also many garden planters available that are made out of synthetic materials that are very lightweight in nature.

Some of the planters made of synthetic materials mimic concrete, stone and clay. In fact, it is hard to tell the difference unless the garden planters are examined closely. The key to any successful garden is a good quality topsoil, regardless of whether you are looking for good quality grass or thriving plants, you will need to pay particular attention to your topsoil to reach your goals. Unfortunately this is all too often overlooked and neglected. Instead many people will abuse it consistently and start to complain when their lawn and plants start to fail. Below are some of the most common problems seen as a result of poor quality topsoil

Lawn starting to sink in some places and hold water

All of those and more are signs of the Topsoil in your garden getting worn out and a little tired. It could be a case that the topsoil has just lost all it has to give. This is why maintenance of topsoil is so important if our gardens are to be the way we want them to be.

Given the right amount of care that your topsoil needs it is still possible to do all of theses things and still have a great looking garden. Of course if things are really bad then all is not lost.

There a few minor things you can do to give your topsoil that little bit of TLC it has been desperate for. The simplest way is to get more nutrients on to your topsoil with some compost or even some horse manure. If you are buying in fresh topsoil or compost then it is advisable to make sure that the quality of it is as good as you can get. A reputable supplier should be more than happy to advise you on the different options available to you.

One thing to consider when buying topsoil is what it is going to be used for and what the problem is that you are trying to solve. Knowing this beforehand will get you even better results and faster. Do a little research into your issue and look at what measures are advisable for that issue. Boggy areas will need a topsoil mix that has good drainage. On the flip side, if the ground is hard an dry you will need a topsoil that will retain moisture. Jot down any questions you may have and ask your supplier before ordering your topsoil just to make sure all your requirements are met.
